This is my second time listening, and thought typing would be beneficial for me to get the word deep down into my spirit and my thoughts.
“Girl, Get Up” by Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts | Notes
Notes prepared by Abimbola Olurin Dames
The Scripture
Luke 8:49
49 While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.”
50 But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.” 51 When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. 52 Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” 53 And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead.
54 But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise.” 55 Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat. 56 And her parents were astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened.
The Word
Are we really that much different from Eve?
How many times have we known better, but didn’t do better?
Like Eve, we’re all carrying a casket that follows us into our relationships, or rooms, our societies, our cultures. It’s a moment that forever shifted how we saw the world. It forever changed our ability to be innocent and carefree because pain met us, and when pain met us, it changed us.
It would be one thing to just have a casket, but Eve has to deal with the issue of carrying a casket and a curse. She’s dealing with the curse attached to the casket.
For example, it’s like how one bad relationship can change the way you see other men going forward. The relationship was the casket, but your shift in perspective was the curse.
When exploring Eve, in many capacities, we have all have an Eve attached to our name.
When God cursed the serpent, his greatest struggle would not be that he would have to slither on his belly, but to have enmity with the woman. The word continues and says that she is going to have her heel bruised by the serpent, but ultimately, her seed would crush his head.
This gives hope in the middle of caskets and curses, that there’s a cross. Even though she’s probably in the most broken, shame-filled moment, there is the promise that God inserts. When it’s all said and done, it might look like the enemy won this moment, but when everything is said and done, God says, “I am going to give the woman a seed, and when she produces, that seed is going to crush the head of the serpent”.
So, never sleep on a woman who has a casket and a curse, because she also has a seed attached to her name. The enemy’s greatest threat is going to be a woman, the woman who figures out that the heel couldn’t keep her from walking into the next dimension of her destiny. The enemy’s greatest threat is going to be that bruised heels still crush serpent’s heads. This has been the foundation of seeing women and Eve differently.
The little girl in the text, is also like Eve. She lost her innocence and was on her death bed. It’s important to realize that she wasn’t dead when her father encountered Jesus. “My daughter is sick” – you don’t just turn off and die. There is a slow fading of your hope; slow fading of your healing; slow fading of your purpose. When Jairus comes up to Jesus, his daughter was just sick. Let’s look at them as one unit. His daughter is sick, but there’s another part that’s fighting to be healed. If we don’t realize that, we’ll think there’s only one part that’s sick, but not the part that’s also fighting to be healed.
There’s always going to be somebody fighting on your behalf, whether you can see them, or not see them – whether you’re connected, or not connected. God has orchestrated your life in a way that he has people praying for you that you haven’t even met yet.
This isn’t because they know you, or understand every situation you’ve gone through, but because they know is that all you need is a revelation from God – And if you receive a revelation from God, no weapon formed against you will prosper; not even the ones that have been formed in your own mind. There’s always going to be somebody fighting for your destiny. I should take a moment and thank the people who fought for me when we couldn’t fight for myself; the people who saw something in me when I couldn’t see it for myself; for the people who created environments for me to flourish when I felt like I was dying.
Jairus is fighting for his daughter. He had to contend with the fact that Jesus was in great demand. She goes from sick to dead. In the middle of that, Jesus was healing other people.
This is like a training ground for what it feels like to be a woman. There are so many moments where parts of our dreams and our desires go from being sick to dead because we were trying to make sure other people were healed. Some of us put our lives on the backburner, then our dreams go from sick to dead.
In the text, there’s a man at the beginning who says, “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.” – i.e., “your dream is dead”. There’s always going to be another voice trying to convince you to not go after the healing that you need…to try and convince you that it’s not going to work out the way that you want it to.
Prophecy: That voice that has been haunting, taunting, and tormenting you is a generational voice that have talked your mother out of some things, and your sister out of some things, but God is saying, “that voice is going to stop talking with you. When you kill that voice, it will be the last time it ever takes stage in your life ever again.”
Kill some things so that our daughters never have to do it again! Know what it’s like to cry yourself to sleep at night, but decide that these will be the only tears that women cry who are connected to me – because when I break this thing off of me, it’s going to break off everything connected to me! I serve a God who heals, restores, and redeems! Came here to be a redeemer for everything connected to me.
Came to do something for God that only he can do. That little girl is still down on the inside of you, and God as kept you here because there’s a purpose attached to her name. Came to go to war with the devil, with depression, prophecy over some dry bones, prophecy over dreams; we’re silencing the voices. No more talking me out of what God has called me to be.
God has resurrecting power. God starts things all over again. He makes all things new.
Prophecy: Over every woman who has a voice that convinces her that she doesn’t have it, that it be sent to hell where it came from. For every insecurity, for every feeling, for every weapon that we form with our own mistakes and past, we’re sending it back where it came from. God give her, her strength back, God give her, her purpose back, God give her, her creativity back, God heal everything that has been broken down on the inside of her, so that living water can spring out of her, so that it can quench the drought that has been killing the fruit you want to give her.
God is saying that “there are women listening who don’t even know who you are. Women who have been praying for change, and God has been waiting for you to see that you are the change. If you would get set on fire, your husband would get set on fire. If you would get set on fire, you could finally get the job. If you could start believing that I’m not a man, I didn’t come to play, I’m not impressed by your degrees, not impressed with your bank account… I’m impressed by your heart, impressed by your worship, impressed by how you get down on your knees, and get down on your face and say, “God if you don’t do it, it cannot be done!” – that’s what impresses me!”
I’m hungry, I’m thirsty, God I need you like never before, there is something sick down on the inside of me and I need it to be healed. I’m tired of making love with the thing that’s trying to kill me. God make me lose the taste out of my mouth, so all I want is righteousness, so that all I want is wholeness. God help me to forgive, God help me to release bitterness.
Prophecy: We have to break through some things before we can get to where God has us. Saturate…I hear the word saturate. His glory is going to saturate your life. He’s coming for your children’s, children’s, children, coming for your finances, to saturate it. You’re the gate. If you open yourself up, God will saturate everything connected to you.
I need a move of God, I need a miracle, I need weight again. Without weight, I can’t be the force that God has called me to be. Jairus is desperate for weight to come and touch his daughter’s sickness. He has to combat the voice of someone telling him “don’t bother the teacher, don’t bother Jesus about that, it’s dead”. Somebody stopped praying because they thought it was dead. They stopped bothering the teacher. They were praying when they still had hope, when they still saw a way for it to happen. But, the moment that they lost sight of how God could do it, the prayers stopped – not realizing that often times, God will leave you down to no other option so that you will know that it was a miracle that it happens. If God would have kept your dream alive when it was just sick, then you could think that maybe it just got cured or turned a corner, but God let that thing die.
Sometimes we can be so upset that God let it die, that we stop praying for God to bring it back to life. It’s time for some of us to start bothering the teacher again. Come to church to bother the teacher about something; refuse to believe that it’s really dead. God didn’t give us this child, vision, dream, marriage, opportunity, or second chance for us to sit back and watch it die. Statistics may count us out but God is a miracle worker, he is a way maker. He has done it time and time again. If it’s dead to everybody else, that doesn’t change my prayer life. If God killed something, it’s because he had something better or he’ll bring it back to life. Don’t grieve no’s, celebrate them. God has one step closer to the yes attached to my name.
In the text, the servant said “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher,” but when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid;” – Who was Jesus answering? The servant didn’t ask a question and Jairus didn’t say a word. He knew instantly that Jairus was thinking something on the inside. Before the thought could come out of his lips, Jesus sent a word to combat the thoughts. Before doubt, grief, bitterness, or anger could even escape his lips, God sent a word to combat them. That’s so good, because sometimes we receive words in the moment and don’t realize we need it, until we’re getting ready to release something out of our lips, and that word starts to go to war with our emotions before it can even escape our lips.
Jesus says, “Do not be afraid; only believe”. Only believe – that seems so simple, but this was divine instruction. Only believe suggests that there are other possibilities of what God can do. Sometimes we need to get down to the bare bones of nothing but belief. Sometimes we pray to God for things, but we can have more faith that it won’t happen than we do that he will do it. Jesus says the key to this next level is to stop diluting your prayer requests with fear, and doubt, and anxiety, and insecurity. The next dimension, the next access of what God wants to do in your life, marriage, career, ministry, has everything to do with you diluting it down to nothing but belief. Cannot have any room for anything other than belief. There may be some people who can’t speak into your situation anymore, because doubt is contagious. Insecurities are contagious. I challenge you to get connected with some people who only have room for belief. Cause if cancer calls, you need to have some prayer warriors who don’t believe in what statistics say, but believe that if we get down on our knees, we can chase cancer away. Pray for your child, your marriage, your career – and only have room for belief.
The text then goes on to say, “51 When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. 52 Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” 53 And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise.””
When thinking back to Eve, carrying the casket and the curse, with life being all too real and it changing the way she survived, and when looking at Jesus in this moment, God is saying, “Girl, get up”. You have been down too long, it’s time to get up again. It’s time to reach back past where pain met you, reach back past where you started giving up on who God said you could be, and to grab that little girl who once believed that all things were possible and who once believed that she literally could do anything, as long as God was with her. Tell her “get up” – tell her we can’t afford to just exist anymore. God needs the real deal in this season. He can’t do it with this half-baked, cookie cutter idea of who you are. He needs that little girl who was once on fire, who once had so much passion, and so much hope for this generation, and for this culture that she didn’t care when she received a ‘no’ or when people let her down. It was just more ammunition for her to dig deeper with God.
Why did Jesus tell her not to tell anyone about the miracle that had taken place, only the father and the mother? This wasn’t the miracle that Jesus was doing for the world to see. This was a miracle for this family.
If you would allow that little girl to arise, allow her to waken from her slumber, and allow her to be cured and healed from the disease of abandonment, the disease of failure, the disease of divorce, the disease of insecurity, the disease of promiscuity. If you would allow her to receive a touch from Jesus that she would come back to life, and this miracle would not be for the world to see, but it would be for the people who are closely connected to her to see. There are people that need to see you awaken that little girl that is down on the inside of you.
You may be wondering why they need to see it. They need to see that he’s still doing miracles. They need to see that he still has power. They need to see your spirit come back to you. When he tells the little girl to arise, she doesn’t just get up, her spirit returned to her. She got her fight back, she got her power back, she got her authority back, she got her vulnerability back, she got her humility back, she got her creativity back!
Your daughter needs to see how to get back in the fight after life has knocked you down, your mother needs to see that addiction can’t knock you down. Being a woman may not be easy, we may have to pick up and move on scarred, and broken, and bruised, but bruised heels still crush serpent’s heads!
When your spirit returns back to you, it is a sign to hell that no weapon formed against you is going to prosper! That when your spirit returns back to you, you don’t have to worry about that child, because that child will be looking at how God did it for you. Generations are connected to your spirit coming back. I need more of my spirit back. Girl, get up! Girl, get your fight back! Girl, get your power back! Girl, start acting like you are a King’s daughter and there has always been a crown attached to your head. Even when I was sick, I was still His! Even when I was dead, I was still His! Do you know who I am? I am a child of the most high God! He has kept me alive so that I can be a testimony to everyone attached to me. That girl, you can get up again! Girl, addiction can’t have you! Girl, divorce has to let you go! Girl, get up! Girl, get up! Girl, get up again! Girl, depression has got to let you go! Girl, anxiety has to loose its hold. Girl, I’m begging and pleading for you to get up. My daughter needs to see you get up, my sister needs to see you get up, my generation needs to see a woman get up again!
I got to get up again, I got to get up again, I need to get up again. I feel my spirit coming back. I feel my power coming back, I feel my ideas coming back, I feel dry bones shaking and coming to life.
Devil, I just got up. Hell you have to let me go. I’m getting in position. Girl, you got to get up. I’m getting up for my daughter, I’m getting up for my sister, and the kids I don’t even have yet. I’m getting up for my marriage, for my community, I got to get up! I got to get up! I got to get up! I got to get up! I’m here, I surrender, I got to get up! I got to find my joy, my peace, my spirit, my spirit made me who I am! My spirit is going to get me out of it!
God touch me, overflow, God I need your spirit; I need overflow. I’m hungry and desperate for it. God fill me up!
Worship and let hell hear you, let depression hear you, let the enemy know, let death know that the Holy Spirit is coming back to you. Jesus, I need your spirit. Jesus, I need your power, Jesus I need your healing.
You are the king of kings, you are the lord of lords. You are my healer, you are the way-maker. I call you excellent, I call you wonderful, I call you magnificent, I call you Jehovah Jireh, I call you Jehova Nissi. I say you can have control, I say, I surrender, I say make a way; I say nothing is off limits. I say God touch me as only you can do, I say God give me power, I say God help me forgive, I say God cleanse me of bitterness. Help press towards the mark, that’s who you are, that’s what you do, there is no one like you, and I just want to be connected again, I just want to know who you are again, on this level, in this way.
God you awakened a part of your daughters that they weren’t even sure was there anymore. God you awakened a hunger, a thirst, a desire that life told us to give up on. God, you have reminded us that you still do miracles. It’s a miracle to even feel this way; that’s a miracle. This is just a miracle in seed form. It’s prophesized that we are going to activate this word in our life. The moment that old thinking starts to spring up in life, you will remind us that you have made all things new.
Prophecy: God you are changing minds, you are clearing up visions. The enemy has been served notice. You have to get out of here. You don’t have any space anymore. I’m getting up, and I can’t be held up. I’m getting up, and nothing is going to bring me back down. Girl, get up! Girl, get up! Girl, get up until the rocks cry out! Girl, get up until anointing springs forth! Girl, get up until your children are saved! Girl, get up, awaken my daughters!
Seal this word, as only you can do, and let it overflow to everything connected to us. I claim it, I receive it, I believe it, and I activate it, in Jesus name I pray.
