- We sometimes read the Bible to give us inspiration – but start asking God to give you revelation. Revelation is the thing that causes transformation so until you get a revelation, you won’t change.
Wavy Faith
- Sometimes when you start walking with God, He’s going to ask you to step out of what’s comfortable and walk into some things that have never held anybody else up.
- Most of us live our lives in the boat, so what ends up happening is that we get too comfortable. Therefore, when God says, “where you are is no longer suitable (the boat) compared to where I’ll take you,” we’re too hesitant to move.
- Matthew 14:28-30: Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.
- God didn’t just call Peter to stay in the boat but into the deep as well
- If you want to live out your Christianity inside the boat, you’re saying that you just have enough faith for salvation. But God is not calling you to just stay “in the boat” and do what you have seen done, but instead come out of your comfort zone and feel the presence of God in the deep waters.

Wavy Faith Believes:
- I Am the Exception
- There are times in the Bible when God does something so supernatural, so wavy, so beyond anything anybody can imagine that they were the exception to the rule. You are the exception, so don’t be limited by what you’ve seen in others.
- Ex.) Peter, when walking on water, was breaking two laws of the universe: the law of gravity and the law of buoyancy. Peter was the exception!
- However! What happens with them does not dictate or determine what happens with me.
- This means that previous patterns are not an accurate indicator for sure probabilities in my life.
- It’s not a declaration for superiority but a declaration of distinction. I am not better than you but I am different than you.
- There is always an exception.
- Ex.) Daniel and the lion’s den, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego vs the burning furnace, Abraham and Sarah’s birth of Isaac, Moses and the parting of the Red Sea, Joshua vs the walls, David vs Goliath
- But God can never make an exception for somebody that stays on the boat
- There are times in the Bible when God does something so supernatural, so wavy, so beyond anything anybody can imagine that they were the exception to the rule. You are the exception, so don’t be limited by what you’ve seen in others.
- I Was Exported / Sent
- What happens when you obeyed what God said and you’re still in a storm?
- Maybe the scene of what you think is your greatest storm is also the setting for your greatest miracle
- What happens when you obeyed what God said and you’re still in a storm?
Wavy Faith:
- Prepares With Expectation
- Matthew 14:23: After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
- This verse parallels, yet contrasts the difference between Peter and Jesus
- In this verse, Jesus went alone to pray. Why? Because He was spiritually preparing to stand on what others drown in.
- Later, in a couple of verses, Peter steps off the boat, had a moment of doubt, and started sinking. Why? It was because Peter saw Jesus do something publicly but he didn’t prepare the same privately.
- You need to always prepare in the season alone to be able to do in the front of everybody what God’s asking you to do.
- This verse parallels, yet contrasts the difference between Peter and Jesus
- Matthew 14:23: After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
- Examine Before Expressing
- If you don’t give situations in your life enough time to unfold, you end up labeling something in a storm one thing when it’s actually something else. God in a storm doesn’t always look like God.
- Matthew 14:28: Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”
- If you don’t give situations in your life enough time to unfold, you end up labeling something in a storm one thing when it’s actually something else. God in a storm doesn’t always look like God.
- Can’t Ignore Excuses
- The right exposure will ruin your excuses
- “If God can do it for [this person], He can do it for me, no excuses!”
- Matthew 14:29: “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.
- Peter got out of the boat, steps into the water, and walks on water. Jesus didn’t say “Come only Peter,” He just said “Come.” There were 12 people on that boat, but Peter was the only one with enough faith to say, “I am the exception!”
- The right exposure will ruin your excuses
- Is Not Exclusive
- The problem with most of us is that we believe that “Come” is not enough instruction.
- Only two people in Matthew 14 had wavy faith – Jesus and Peter
- When Peter decided to walk on water, others in the boat could only watch, but only Jesus could watch him succeed and save him when he almost drowned.
