When You’re Marked:

What You Have Now is Your Weapon

  • Just because your trait(s) or abilities are not celebrated by the world doesn’t mean that they’re not special or made by God. God knows you and made you with all of your quirks, so all of your abilities are “worth it.”
  • 1 Samuel 17:40: Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.
    • David was “armed” with the tools he learned from the pasture, the season God has called him to, and David did it faithfully, and was confident in his weapons (staff and slingshot) because he was confident in God who provided him those weapons and gave him the opportunity to hone those skills.
  • So many Marked people are frozen at the starting line because they don’t believe what they have in their hands are enough to complete what God has placed in their hearts.
    • Practical Motivation: Then [Name], armed only with [skill/ability] and [skill/ability], started [Godly goal].
  • Zechariah 4:10: Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?
    • God values whatever is in your hands right now, because once you start, God can use that to begin giving you everything you need.
  • God uses the insufficiencies in your hands to show you that He is sufficient, you just have to step in faith towards what God has called you to and He’ll bring all you don’t have, and you’ll still win the victory.
  • When you speak in faith over your situation, you do not need to have everything you think you need to see the victory.

Today’s Warfare will Produce Tomorrow’s Weapon

  • What you experience in this season of your life and defeat that “giant” or obstacle, the spoils (e.g., trophy, connection, etc.) from that giant will be the tools you need for the next battle.
    • 1 Samuel 17:46,50: 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
      • David spoke with faith that he would cut Goliath’s head off (despite him not having a sword to speak of) and he did. That moment where David cut Goliath’s head off with Goliath’s own sword was the moment that David transitioned from a shepherd to a “man of war.”
    • Ephesians 6:12-18: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
      • The best way to fight the “giants” in your own life is by strapping yourself with the weapons God has given you in these verses.

Conclusion: Concluding Each Season of Your Life Well

  • Don’t get stuck at the starting line, but also don’t forget about God once you get to the “position” you always wanted.
  • 2 Samuel 11:1-3: In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
    • In a season where David was supposed to carry the sword and be a “man of war,” David stayed behind and stayed as king of Israel, leading him to commit a grave sin.
  • God calls you to weapons and situations that you’re not comfortable with, but you have to step out in faith and believe in the small beginnings, so God can do great things with it.
