We are going back to the basics with this message

Scripture

Matthew 14:22-33 New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Walks on the Water
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

1. Certain storms are unavoidable

Two ways to get through a storm:

As a survivor or a Student

Be a student of the storm.

Learning to learn from the storm.

Certain things I can only learn in a storm.

2. God’s timing is designed to teach you to trust

If God’s timing is to teach us to trust, no wonder he shows up late sometimes.

Just because they didn’t see Jesus doesn’t mean Jesus didn’t see them.

God’s timing is not designed to give us relief, it’s designed to give us Revelation.

Just because you can’t see him doesn’t mean he’s not watching.

Our time is allocated around when we think God should do things.

3. “What If” works both ways

The wind was against them, the Word was for them

Fear is faith in the wrong “what if”

What if there’s something on the other side that’s worth going through the storm for.

What if the wind is proof that what’s on the other side is so significant that you have to push through to get there

The wind represents resistance.

[Don’t compare storms]

Peter didn’t demonstrate faith, he demonstrated the possibility of What If, [as he started sentence by, “If it’s”]

4. The deepest things God speaks will often be the simplest.

If God isn’t giving you details ask for direction.

Sometimes we want something deep but we don’t want to do anything with it.

God doesn’t give details, just direction.

The command is the confirmation.

With the confirmation he provides the strength.

There’s an assignment on the other side

Some of the things that are against you will enable you to hear God more clearly.

Familiarity can be an enemy of Faith

Sometimes we get too comfortable in our Faith

Matthew 8:5-10 New International Version (NIV)
The Faith of the Centurion
5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6 “Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”

7 Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?”

8 The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

Sometimes it takes greater faith to stay.

Sometimes the greatest faith is when you stay

5. Big moves don’t always prove great faith

Sometimes people have faith but they’re really just freaking out

If failed the test but still got the lesson it’s faith

Wasn’t a lesson about water it was a lesson about worship

6. Grace and Faith Go Hand in Hand

It is by Grace through Faith that God is going to get you through the storm.

Final Words
The wind can carry his Word into your heart
